Wandsworth Town Hall, The High Street, Wandsworth, London SW18 2PU Phone: 020 8871 6120
Originally opened in 1937 by Queen Mary, the Town Hall was designed by Edward A. Hunt and is an impressive Neo-Georgian building with many striking Art Deco details though sitting right in the middle of the busy Wandsworth High Street gyratory system.
Wandsworth Town Hall ceremony rooms
This popular and welcoming London wedding venue has four rooms that are licensed for wedding ceremonies: The Register Office (Also called The Elizabeth Room), The Victoria Room and The Alexandra Room are based on the first floor and are all panelled in rich oak and connected by a long oak panelled corridor, whilst The Grand Chamber is up on the first floor and accessed by a marble staircase.
The Register Office, also known as The Elizabeth Room is the smallest wedding room and is used for small, intimate wedding ceremonies of up to 8 guests and is only available during the week Monday to Friday.
Adjacent to The Register Office is The Victoria Room which accommodates up to 25 guests and again offers a level of intimacy and a rather relaxed atmosphere with its prominent wooden table in the middle of the room and its leather red backed oak chairs.
Further down the corridor on the end is the elegant Alexandra Room, with a capacity of up to 50 guests. Complete with cream chairs this room in particular pays homage to the Art Deco theme with its eye-catching mirrored table, wall mirrors and pictures.
The fourth room is the very impressive and more formal Grand Chamber, which accommodates up to 100 guests and comes complete with even more rich oak wooden panelling, tiered seating in rich Moroccan leather and a magnificent pendant light in the centre.
Wedding photography opportunities at Wandsworth Town Hall
All these rooms offer good opportunities for some lovely memorable wedding photographs and the staff too are always very helpful in allowing you to plan your coverage. The recent development of adding a webcam option in the Victoria Room, Alexandra Room and in the Grand Chamber to cover the proceedings for guests not in attendance can however, be a hindrance for the wedding photographer especially if restrictions on movement are placed on you.
For the group wedding photos there are a few options though in truth only one in particular is usually chosen; There is the courtyard with its fountain but this usually has cars in it so its not always a viable option. There is the lawn garden out in the front again with a fountain, however this can be in full sun so again, not not always the place to consider. So it often rests on the impressive marble staircase that leads up to the Grand Chamber and is situated opposite the exit door into the courtyard. Complete with weighty pendant light fittings, bronze balustrades and with walls lined in African onyx it is the most popular place to go. Having said that it is large and can prove deceptive, for what you can capture with your eye is not as easy to capture with a camera even for the most seasoned wedding photographer.
Finally for some classic confetti shots before leaving for the reception, there is the doorway out onto the courtyard.
